A Roman Story

My name is Marius. I am a Roman soldier. Let me tell you about my life. When I joined, I took an oath for 25 years or until I die. I will never marry or see my homeland again.

My life is dangerous and exciting at the same time. I walk 30km a day with my kit. I carry an axe, a saw, food, a rope and camping gear inside. I wear armour and have weapons such as my sword, my dagger, my javelin and my helmet and shield for protection.

I sleep in a leather tent with seven other soldiers. I try to sleep in the middle because it is the warmest. I train everyday. It can be a bloody affair, even if we cover up the tips of our swords and daggers!. I also feed animals and collect wood and water. I clean my weapons too. The army builds roads and forts. We are a strong army. We invade other countries to get land taxes and slaves. When I retire, the Emperor of Rome will reward my hard work with a small farm and maybe some animals.
